Driver License Expiration
Ages 16 - 17
Once, you visit the Sarathi website, on your left hand side, you will find an option called 'Status of Licence' under 'National Register (DL) Queries.' Once you choose 'Status of Licence', you will be asked to enter your date of birth, DL number, and your state. Please enter the details and click on 'Submit'. On my driving licence application completion form I have to send in proof of identity. Since I don't have a passport i'm having to send my birth certificate and national insurance number letter. The form is asking for the serial number(s) of the documents I'm enclosing. The Secretary of State's office mails a renewal letter to driver's license holders 60 to 90 days prior to the expiration of your license. The letter is mailed to the address our office has on file for the driving record. The letter contains the information needed to renew your license.

Ages 18 - 20
Drivers who are 18-20 years of age receive a 3-year* driver license that expires on the applicant's date of birth in the third year after date of issuance.
Ages 21 - 69
Drivers who are 21-69 years of age receive a 6-year* driver license that expires on the applicant's date of birth in the sixth year after the date of issuance.
Ages 70 and over
Drivers who are ages 70 and over receive a 3-year* driver license that expires on the applicant's date of birth in the third year after date of issuance.
Note: Driver license renewal applicants are required to take a road sign recognition test and vision test.

Nondriver License Expiration
Ages 69 and under
Nondriver license will expire on the applicant's date of birth in the sixth year* after date of issuance.
Ages 70 and over
Applicants age 70 and older are eligible for a nonexpiring* nondriver license.

How Do I Pay?
Payment may be made by cash, personal check, cashier's check, money order, and credit or debit cards (Discover, American Express, VISA, and Master Card only).
Personal checks must be made payable to the Missouri Department of Revenue. Personal checks must be preprinted with the check writer's name, address, bank code, and account number. The personal check must also include the following information regarding the check writer:
- Driver's license or non-driver's license number;
- Date of birth; and
- Daytime phone number.
The Missouri Department of Revenue may electronically resubmit checks returned for insufficient or uncollected funds.
Credit / Debit Card Transactions - The 'convenience fee' charged by the credit/debit card vendor for transactions up to $50.00 is $1.25. For transactions over $50.00, please see the table below.

Missouri Driver Licenses and Nondriver Licenses
In December 2012, the Missouri Department of Revenue implemented a central issuance system for driver licenses and nondriver licenses. These changes protect your identity and help decrease fraud. The central issuance system replaced the over-the-counter driver license system that had been in place since the 1990s.
Effective April 1, 2017, Missouri instruction permit, driver license, and nondriver identification card documents were modified to remove the Director of Revenue signature displayed above the applicant photo area of the printed document. This change did not affect the requirements or procedures for issuance of the document and the previously issued formats containing the Director of Revenue’s signature remain valid until the expiration date of the document. Effective March 25, 2019, the Missouri Department of Revenue implemented provisions to allow individuals the option to apply for a REAL ID-compliant driver license, nondriver license, or instruction permit.

Missouri Driver Licenses and Nondriver Licenses
New Missouri residents with an out-of-state driver license or nondriver license, either valid or expired no more than 184 days, must provide acceptable documents of the following:
- Proof of Identity;
- Date of Lawful Status;
- Proof of Social Security number; and
- Proof of Missouri residential address.
- NOTE: New applicants requesting a REAL ID-compliant document, a Commercial Driver License or a Commercial Learner's Permit must submit two acceptable documents as proof of Missouri residency and state of domicile.
Additional documents will be required to verify an alternate mailing address or name change, if your current name is different from the name of your identity or lawful status document.
If the out-of-state driver license or nondriver license is lost, stolen, or destroyed, you may instead submit a current Clearance Letter from that state, or other affidavit of lost license that includes the out-of-state license number and classification, endorsements, and restrictions to allow waiver of the Missouri knowledge and skills testing.
NOTE: IF you are upgrading your driver license, take the above documents to a MSHP driver examination station when you take the written, vision, road sign recognition, or driving tests.Restrictions
If you have limited driving experience or a medical condition that impairs your ability to drive safely, you may receive a restricted license permitting you to drive only under certain conditions. Those coded restrictions and conditions will be placed on your license. You may be required to take a driving test in order to have a restriction removed from your license. A list of these restrictions can be found on page 12 of the Missouri Driver Guide.
Endorsements
Endorsements are just the opposite of restrictions because they qualify you to do things you couldn’t do without the endorsement. The following endorsement is available for your non-commercial (class F, E, or M) Missouri driver license.
- Motorcycle License (M) — You must have a Class M license or permit (or a driver license with the M endorsement) if you operate a motorcycle or motortricycle on public roadways. You will need to pass the Class F and Class M written, vision, road sign, and motorcycle skills tests. Graduated driver license requirements will apply to Class M license applicants between the ages of 16 and 18. See the Graduated Driver License requirements for details. - School Bus (S) — A school bus endorsement is required for anyone transporting students from school to home, home to school, and to and from school-sponsored events. A school bus endorsement may be issued to drivers age 21 or older who hold a Class E (referred to as a 'for-hire' or 'chauffeur') license or a commercial license with a Passenger (P) endorsement. A school bus endorsement can be suspended for one year if a person fails to pass any drug, alcohol, or chemical test administered in accordance with any federal or state law, rule, or regulation regarding the operation of a school bus. Missouri law has special operating regulations for school buses. - Deaf or Hard of Hearing
When you apply for or renew your driver license, nondriver license, or instruction permit, you may ask that a “DHH” notation be placed on your driver license, nondriver license, or instructional permit. In the event of an emergency, this notation will allow law enforcement or emergency and medical personnel to readily determine if you are deaf or hard of hearing. This will assist in ensuring effective communications with someone who is injured and nonresponsive. In order to obtain a “DHH” notation, you must request the notation when applying for a license or instructional permit. - Your decision to register as an organ, eye and tissue donor; and
- If you register, your decision to have an organ donor symbol placed on the face of your driver license, nondriver license or permit.
- If you did not elect to place the symbol on your document at the time of application for your driver license, nondriver license or permit, you may return to the license office to request a duplicate issuance to have the donor symbol added to your document (applicable fees will apply); or
- Visit https://missouriorgandonor.com/odpublicsite/Default.aspx to request a donor sticker that may be placed in the newly designated area on the back of a driver license, nondriver license or permit issued on or after August 28, 2019. For cards issued prior to August 28, 2019, place the sticker over the donor designation area on the back of the card, ensuring you do not cover any licensing data or bar code information areas.
- Selective Service Registration — Male applicants, age 18 to 26, may register with Selective Service at the time of application for a new or renewal permit, driver license, or nondriver license. For more information, you may visit the Selective Service System website.
- Voter Registration — When you apply for or renew your permit, driver license, or nondriver license, the clerk will ask you if you are registered to vote.
